The new Exhibition Hall at Springwood Park is nearing completion. It is the latest phase of the Border Union Agricultural Society's Development Project. This project aims to improve the facilities and surroundings at Springwood Park and in doing so, increase the number of visitors to the Showground and revenue for the local community. The Society has already overseen the completion of a new Main Gate and bitumened internal roads.
The original Trade Hall was demolished immediately after the 2002 Ram Sales, with the new Hall due to be complete April 25th in time for the Four in One Promotions Antique Fair in early May. The new Hall will be officially opened on Friday 25th July during the first day of the annual Border Union Show. On Thursday 20th March, it will be announced on this website, who will officially open the Hall. The Hall was designed by Roger G. Dodd and Company, with the main contractor being John Laidlaw & Son Ltd, Jedburgh. The Development Project has been funded by the Society with considerable financial assistance from Scottish Enterprise Borders, Scottish Borders Council and South of Scotland European Partnership Objective 2 Programme. A number of Society members and members of the local community have also donated generously to the Development Appeal. Any contributions will still be gratefully accepted.
Already, much interest has been generated by the new Exhibition Hall and the Society has secured several new bookings despite the building still being under construction. This is all very promising and indicates that the Hall will be of huge benefit not only to Kelso but the whole of the Borders
The new Hall measures 42 metres by 24 metres (but can be tailored to suit) and is available for business or private functions ; conferences, seminars, trade events, exhibitions, fairs, dances, dinners or weddings. There is a new kitchen (12m x 11m), toilets and a separate meeting room in the building with full disabled access and facilities. The Back Hall can be `attached' to the new Hall or used on its own. Unlimited parking is available.
